HISTORY
November 1971 Brian Wiles bought his first Lorry a brand new
16 Tonne Dodge at a cost of £3984.62. With this vehicle he
sub-contracted to Contractors a very well respected local
haulage company.
November 1973 Brian diversified into the smaller end of the
market and purchased his first Ford Transit, with this he
worked for several local companies including Ciba Giegy and
Baker Perkins.
Brian rented parking at F J Beetons yard in Middletons Road,
Yaxley. September 1976 he bought a second vehicle employing
his first driver. The business continued to grow and in
November 1978, now with four transits, a 7.5 Tonne lorry was
bought.
The fleet increased over the years and in September 1982
Brian's son Martin came to work for the business. Since
leaving school he had served his apprenticeship as a heavy
and light vehicle mechanic at The Truck Centre near
Whittlesey. He came to predominately look after the vehicle
fleet. A workshop bay was being rented from F J Beeton to
look after the vehicles in.
Early 1983 the Yaxley Council Depot came up for sale and
with the fleet size ever increasing and the business moving
forward it was an ideal opportunity for Brian to purchase
his own premises after years of renting. This was a
greenfield site and after having a 3 bay workshop and
offices built in January 1984 operations began from the new
premises.
In December 1986 with the business still expanding Martin
was made a partner in the business and Son was added to the
business name. Over the years the lorry fleet increased
gradually replacing all the transits. In 1990 after winning
a contract with Bennie Lifts the first crane lorry was
purchased.
When the workload increased following the take over of
Bennie Lifts by KONE PLC the number of crane Lorries
increased accordingly up to fifteen where we are today.
After having a spell of driving Martin was now running the
vehicle fleet as well as looking after the vehicles.
In July 1997 a traffic manager was employed leaving Martin
to look after the day to day running of the business. By now
a full time mechanic had been employed. In 2001 the we were
asked by KONE to operate their storage facility at Alconbury.
This then led to us taking on our own warehousing at
Alconbury where five people are now employed full time.
Sadly, in January 2004 Brian lost his fight against cancer.
However having built up a strong business and incorporating
in 2005 B C Wiles & Son now run a fleet of 20 vehicles, have
a large storage facility and employ 32 people.
